added Printed Matter example from Serving Library, PDFs published online

My obsession with a genre term for books produced via blurb.com, lulu.com, etc started with a query from Rachel Stuhlman at the Eastman House. She had begun seeing photo books produced by artists using web-based print-on-demand resources. This is a place for me to keep notes on trying to find the right genre term.

LCSH has:

On-demand publications (sh94007924)

On-demand printing (sh97003623)

On-demand reprints (Publications) (sh94007925)

Instant printing (sh85106780) (scope note: Here are entered works on fast-turnaround printing from eye-readable copy. Works on printing large or small numbers of copies from a computer file stored for use when copies are needed are entered under On-demand printing.)

AAT has: On-demand printing; On-demand publications; On-demand publishing; On-demand reprints

Wikipedia has: Self-publishing

Amon Carter Museum Library is using: 655 _4 $a Print-on-demand books.

Message to ARLIS-L from David Senior, MoMA, 22 November 2011: subject line: digital journal, blog or tumblr as book

His query was specifically about books produced from blogs or electronic journals.

Noted in Printed Matter web catalog (31 October 2012):

The Serving Library (Dexter Sinister)
The Bulletins Of The Serving Library No.3
New York, NY: The Serving Library. 2012

websites for producing books:

blog2print.com

Blurb BookSmart (tutorial on "slurping" Flickr images into BookSmart)

Lulu - Lulu Studio for photo books

(both blurb and lulu use "print on demand" in the text on their websites)

"On-demand" or "Print-on-demand" doesn't address the self-publishing aspect. Does it matter? It seems to me that it is important, and David Senior's message seems to imply that what he wants a genre term for is something more than JUST print-on-demand books.
